Two big stars, Tshidino Ndou of Munwe na munwe u na zwine a tenda khazwo fame and Takalani Mudau of Baby Fusheani fame left fans drooling for more in Meadowlands, a Soweto township on 5 November 2011.

Meadow Point Shopping Complex came to a standstill when Tshidino and Takalani started performing Nisongo Nyadza and Baby Fusheani.

Tshidino is known for composing the hit song “Ni songo nyadza” which is widely known as Munwe na munwe u na zwine a tenda khazwo.

Tshidino is not just a singer but a Film Producer and funny actor whose movies are always on Soweto TV. Movies he produced include Hu do dzula nnyi, Hu bvuma na fhasi, Mathaithai, Mphe Mphe i a netisa & Hu do dzula nnyi.

His funniest comedy, Vho-Mulingo proves that this Tshakhuma boy is multi-talented.

“We are on a mission to tour all regions with the aim of taking music to our fans,” Tshidino told Vhagwins. Tshidino added that they have already toured Germiston, Tembisa, Soshanguve, Diepsloot and Mamelodi.

Takalani on the other hand, was nominated for the Best Venda Album of the year for his romantic album titled Fusheani. Although the award was won by his sister in the Venda Music Market Jeanet Nkanyane known as Jininka, Takalani’s nomination shows how good his music is.

“I would like to give credit to Tshidino and Vhadino Entertainment for realizing that there is a gap in the marketing and distribution of our Venda music,” Takalani told Vhagwins. Takalani added that more people like Tshidino are required to uplift the Venda music industry.

The purity is divine and it’s an awesome feeling to live and die in the magic of love.I remember myself when I was in love,it was just amazing.I remember my whole day and night was like an event.I was enjoying each and every activity and moment of my life and nights were as romantic as rose.Whole day I was thinking about her and talking about her with friends.Her voice was as sweet as honey and as inspirational as books.I loved her deeply madly insanely.I had so many plans and dreams and expectations.I wanted to take her to my parents,my elder brothe Fulufhelo(Fhulu my hero) knew about us.I loved everything about her.She was like rose.I loved her in fact everything about her.Although she was very less talkative,Prefer texting but I knew that she loves me.I knew that she can get anyone because she was just awesome like a goddess.

Every time we had arguments on small to large topics but they were healthy arguments and I appreciated her words and suggestions.She was not dreamy like me.She was satisfied with herself and her job.On that night,she sent me a message on facebook and I was also waiting for her inbox.I opened my inbox in excitement and she wanted to have some serious talk.She said that she want a good friend only nothing more and she asked my suggestion but i didn't know what to say by that time,She said i failed to show love but the truth is : I LOVE HER.It's a problem to me,I loved her and I don't wanna lose her just like that.

TOP REGGAE ARTIST IN LOCAL MOVIE.

Tshivenda film market has been blessed with the release of a must-see local movie titled Hu Fhela Rine.

Two Top Reggae singers, Tshidino Ndou and Albert Mamphwe better known as Alos M in the music fraternity have teamed up and released a quirky piece of Vendawood film called Hu Fhela Rine, a Venda phrase for “we are the finished ones”.

According to the writer, actor and director of the movie, Tshidino Ndou the movie is a must see. This is not just a “message” movie but an entertaining ride. If you like Tshidino’s comedies such as Vho-Mulingo and Mathaithai and Mphw Mphe I A Netisa, you will be thrilled by Hu Fhela Rine.

Set in a small village of Tshakhuma and Pretoria, Hu Fhela Rine is a hilarious comedy that centres on the life of a teacher who goes to Gauteng to buy a car. In the end the teacher returns to Venda empty handed.

Asked why he decided to remake Hu Fhela Rine, Tshidino said that Alos asked him to re-edit his movie 7 years ago and while editing he found that the concept was interesting. He then decided to re-make the film in a higher quality using modern technology.

The filming of Hu Fhela Rine commenced last year but only finalized this year due to uncontrolled circumstances. Alos said he is not worrying about the time the movie took before hitting the shelves. “I was only concerned about the quality. And as we know, quality takes time,” Alos said.

Hu Fhela Rine, which is set to do well is acted out in English, Venda, Sotho, Tsonga and Zulu.The film stars Tshidino Ndou, Albert Mamphwe and other supporting actors such as Forget Mukhabele, Elekanyani Nthangeni, Ronewa Ndou, Tambani Netshisaulu, Takalani Ndou, Funanani Madala, Tshilidzi Mudau, Slindile Sithole, Zolani Vilakazi, Elelwani Ndou, Phathutshedzo Booi.

Tshidino is a household name in Limpopo and Gauteng who shot to fame with his comedy Vho-Mulingo in which he plays the main role. As if that is not enough, Tshidino produced a National Anthem, “Ni songo nyadza zwine vhanwe vha tenda khazwo”, a song which is causing havoc on radio and TV.

Alos on the other hand is famous for his controversial song, U dzima (selfishness) which is causing troubles in the airwaves.

TOUGH ON ME.

It grieves my heart to tell all about my History.History has not been kind to me,and it is grieving.I mean the history of the sufferings,i am force to tell.Am I deserve this,nah my lord.It is tough on me haaa.Unemployment moved me from my rural village to urban area seeking for Job.Only to find a peace job there,because unemployment rate here is too high,when a pay day is to be,I never get payed.A brother advise to get a lawyer,about the case of someone who didn't pay me last month,and it is tough on me.The lawyer wanted to know how much i can monthly afford.The owner of the boarding house commanded me that is month end now,i must pay or choose to go.It is tough on me.The next day i cried,for my children wanna go to school,inflection rate is going too high,no food no clothes to wear.One was suffering form malnutrition, another son was suffering from pneumonia,no medical aid no shelter to hide on.I am in a position where my daily bread comes only from God like animals,birds and insects.When the first summer rain fall,we went our meal plumpation and rice,baboon and monkeys destroy the meals before harvest,another year they destroy the seed before they grow.When i go to buy basic foods and clothes from Goodluck supermarket,their the most expensivest thing my money can buy.It is tough on me.I had a little conservation when my pastor preach me,that i must come one day when pastor Tshifhiwa is here.No worry,no cry all sufferings.Never give up thou its tough.Yes it is tough on me.

My resting heart rate is like 37 beats a minute.
I found this out after a colonoscopy.
I was "recovering",yet every time I fell asleep,the heart monitor alarm would beep.
Eventually,the nurse comes in and says, "just pick your arm up when it does that."
Which means I would fall asleep the alarm would set and I would have to move around to pick my heart rate up.
I think it's a great story that is applicable for myself.
The nurse said,"you have a strong muscle," but what I was thinking is:
My heart is apathetic. It only pumps vigorously when I force myself to do something.
So,I've decided to volunteer at a local refugee assistance program in my neighborhood.
It is definitely time to stop thinking about what to do and jump in.
With the body's actions, the heart reacts.
We are not divided beings.
My journey towards peace,love,and hope can only be furthered by stepping with aim, yet with blind eyes as well.

A well-known reggae artist,Khakhathi Tshisikue,is a new PAC councilor at the Thulamela Municipality.Tshisikile is one of three PR councillors for his party.In the last election,the PAC only had two PR seats at that municipality.The party,which is led by Mr Takalani Ligege in the Limpopo province,secured a seat at Mutale and Musina Municipality,which is a record as they did not have a seat at these municipalities before.The PAC also secured a seat in the Makhado Municipality and a PR seat at Vhembe district level,which they did not have before.Ligege attributed the increase in their support in the local government election to the influence of Tshisikule."There were many people who voted for Khakhathi,including the elders. We are happy about the decision he took to join us,"Ligege said."Khakhathi is not just a singer, but he is also a public speaker.We will plan around him, so that we can have him in the municipality´s programme,"said Ligege. TSHIDINO AIMS HIGH WITH HIS NEW MUSIC DVD.

A well known film producer and musician from Tshakhuma,Tshidino Ndou is back with a second burning DVD for his album called “Nne Ndi Nne” meaning I am what I am.

His first DVD,“Ndi Do Fa Na Inwi” was released last year and created a unique reggae vibe featuring hit songs among others,Lufuno Lwanga,Mbingano,Legends of reggae.

Tshidino’s latest DVD opens with a heart-piecing popular song, “Ni Songo Nyadza” which is currently on everyone’s lips.The song talks about respecting each other’s belief and features a well known reggae icon,Humbulani Ramagwedzha of Thivhulungiwi ndi kha di tshila fame.

Tshidino says his fans should look out for great songs such as No mu malelani, Mana a mutukana, Ni songo nyadza,Remembered forever,Stop Xenophobia,Vhumatshelo hanu and Ndi a mu funa.

Tshidino entered the music scene a year ago but had already shared a stage with popular artists such as Stoan Seete of Afro Cafe,Speedy,Bricks,Winnie Mashaba, Chomee,Winnie Khumalo,Mzambia,Tina,Teargas and Rhythmic Elements.

Tshidino’s album is supported by radio and tv stations and all reggae lovers in and outside South Africa. He said he promotes the use of local languages and sings his music in Tshivenda which makes him feel proud to be a Venda artist. He also stated that singing in Tshivenda connects him with the reggae fans.

He said his favourite artist is the late Lucky Dube.Unlike many singes who spend time remixing other artists’ songs,Tshidino creates music from scratch.He added that he aims to give people good music they never heard of before.

The album was recorded by his own company,Vhadino Entertainment while the DVD was produced by Dzhatsha Films Company.

Tshidino is a great stage performer which is a marvel to watch.“When I perform I give my fans what they deserve,”he said.

There is a huge debate going on whether Tshidino is a true Rasta or not.“I am not concerned about gossips because Lucky Dube was a Rasta without smoking dagga.

Tshidino also made a name for himself in the movie industry. He is well known for playing the character of Vho-Mulingo on Vho-Mulingo comedy which premiered on Soweto TV recently.

Other movies he produced include Mathaithai, Hu do dzula nnyi,Mphe mphe i a netisa and Hu bvuma na fhasi.

KHAKHATHI TSHISIKULE JOINED PAC.

A well-known reggae artist in Limpopo, Khakhathi Tshisikule of Khakhathi & Friends fame, has joined the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC).

PAC leader in Limpopo Takalani Ligege confirmed that Tshisikule had joined them. Ligege said he was happy that Tshisikule would woo more votes for the party through his good music. "We believe that Tshisikule has always been a PAC man as the messages in his music are the same as ours. When we approached him, he also understood that it was the right thing to join us as he has always been labelled a PAC man by the ruling party because of the messages in his music that challenge poor service given to the community," said Ligege.

Besides being an artist who was loved by the community, Ligege said, Tshisikule was a good public speaker whom they were going to use in their campaigns.

Tshisikule said he decided to join the PAC in order to force the ANC to deliver. "I realized that for the ANC to deliver for the people, they needed a challenge and I am going to do exactly that." Tshisikule has been in the bad books of the ANC for more than a decade, after the release of his second album, Yo Tshaya (it is over). On the album, Tshisikule, who was born and bred in Mbaleni near Thohoyandou, criticised the ANC-led local municipality for failing to deliver water to the people and to maintain roads and streetlights in town.

Although the album was not played on SABC radio programmes, Tshisikule said he was happy with the sales.
Five years ago, Tshisikule made things worse by releasing another album that challenged the sale of land to the Indian business community in Thohoyandou. In the song Li kho u tuwa shango (the land is going), Tshisikule accused the municipal officials of collecting bribes from businesspeople in exchange for land.

Tshisikule says the release of his eighth album, Muthu wa Vhathu, made him realize that his songs were being misinterpreted by some of the ANC councillors at the Thulamela Municipality. In this album, Tshisikule once again challenged the local municipality for refusing hawkers permission to trade in the streets.

He said the municipality´s actions were against ANC policy. Tshisikule said: "Some of the ANC councillors think I am fighting them. It is true that the ANC fought for this democracy, but today they are popular for stealing and pushing corruption."

By joining the PAC, Tshisikule says, he wants people to understand that he is concerned about service delivery to them. "I realized that my contributions were limited by just raising the concerns of the people through my music. Now I want to face ANC councillors and push them to deliver."

While there are a great many music sounds and genres indigenous to South Africa, international influence is prominent.
This certainly cannot be viewed as a downfall when you have artists like the reggae-inspired Colbert Mukwevho, whose singing and compositions are inspired by that legendary Jamaican, Bob Marley.
Mukwevho has been a musician for close to three decades, initially working as a bassist and backing singer with Chicco Twala
He also did a duet, Hero's Party, with Brenda Fassie in the mid-eighties, which appeared on her album Black President.
Mukwevho, who hails from Limpopo Venda, has frequently had his voice mistaken for Marley's.Rita Marley invited Mukwevho to visit Jamaica in honour of the reggae king.

Let’s welcome our next self-proclaimed “king” of reggae, Tshidino Ndou who is fast becoming a house-hold name in the music industry.

Tshidino made an explosive entry into the music industry with his house album titled Ro Swika which he released with his brother, Arthur in 2008.

He was born and raised in Tshakhuma, Limpopo many years ago. From his days as a youth in this region his interest in music was apparent from an early age, and a firm foundation was set for his musical career when he became a church choir leader. “My father asked me to lead his church choir and that’s how everything commenced,” Tshidino said.

I Asked why he compromised house for reggae music, Tshidino said house music mostly appeals to young people while reggae charms young and old people alike. He said he was inspired by Lucky Dube and Colbert Mukwevho’s music.

Unlike other musicians who send demos from one record company to another, Tshidino stated he does not believe in waiting to be discovered by major record companies, but stand up and do it himself. “I want to be in control of my own destiny as a producer and a musician,” Tshidino said.

The next “king” of reggae went solo in 2009 and released his debut album, Ndi do fan a inwi which sold more than 20 000 copies to date. The album features hot tracks such as Lufuno Lwanga, Ndi muthu nga vhanwe and Hu bvuma yone fhedzi which are getting enough airplay.

Tshidino has managed to accomplish more than most artists accomplish in a lifetime. His much anticipated album, Nne ndi nne will be released in October 2010 under his own label Vhadino Entertainment and is set to rock the music market. Tshidino said working on Nne ndi nne album was a challenge. “I did not want to go below the standard that I set on my first album,” Tshidino said.

Tshidino is not just a musician. He is also filmmaker with five movies under his belt and had been screened on Soweto TV. Some of his movies are Hu bvuma na fhasi, Hu do dzula nnyi, Mathaithai, Mphemphe i a netisa and Vho-Mulingo. “I am an entertainer and use music and movies to tell my stories and things that I have observed over the years,” Tshidino said.

Reggae icon’s son says he will never forgive culprits
“I will never forgive them,” is what Lucky Dube’s son Thokozani said after his father’s killers were sentenced to life imprisonment.
A visibly upset Thokozani, 22, welcomed the sentence but said it would not bring his father back. “The only thing we get out of this is the satisfaction of knowing they are in prison. It won’t bring my father back.
“They are still alive, their families can still see them. I can never forgive them, what they did was too bad. Personally, I would like to close this chapter, do what I do, and move on with my life,” he said.
Thokozani was the only eyewitness to his father’s murder and one of the key state witnesses.
He was the only person with a dry eye among his family members who gathered in the witness room after the court had adjourned. Dube’s wife, Zanele, cried hysterically, and for the first time responded to media questions.
“We are thankful that justice has been done. But that won’t take away the pain. My children will still grow up without their father.
“My last born was only three months old when his father died,” she said.
She has three children with the reggae icon aged seven, five and the baby who is now one-and-a-half years old.
Dube’s murder was not just a great loss to the family. His band members with whom he had worked since the 1980s, were robbed of a man who provided their income.
Guitarist and band leader Skipper Tshabalala said: “We don’t need such people in our society, they should live with animals.”

HOW AN UPCOMING ARTIST GOT DEALS AT MIDEM 2009.

Upcoming reggae artist, Renneth Mulaudzi received a subsidy from the Department of Arts and Culture to attend MIDEM held in Cannes in France from the 18th to the 21st of January this year. Her endeavours at the conference, which attracted over 8 000 delegates from all over the world have potentially landed her deals with a Jamaican record label and two mobile phone companies; Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

Renneth began her music career four years back as a gospel artist.She was also working with a well known reggae artist Khakhathi Tshisikule of Khakhathi and friends. Since then, she has had four releases, switching to reggae on her last album titled ‘Denga’.

“The first day I arrived at MIDEM I was a bit confused because it was totally different to what I thought it would be. The other thing is that I did not have a manager so it was tough to get talking with other businesses. But I eventually got to talk with some Jamaican music promoters as well as Nokia and Sony Ericsson”, says Renneth.

“I also performed at Palm Square and did two radio interviews with France FM and Agora FM “She explained, “The performance moved the Jamaicans who I had a chat with soon after. They were impressed with my music and invited me to tour Jamaica sometime this year and also to do collaborations with some other Jamaican musicians.”

“I am so excited with the Jamaican deal and although I am not yet sure of the artists I am to work with, the idea already feels like a big achievement”

Nokia.mobi is a popular mobile internet site funded by Nokia that provides music streaming, music downloads, and celebrity news among other entertainment offerings.

Asked about the implications of the deal, Renneth said “At the moment, my task is to structure a website and come up with proposals on certain issues. The good thing here is that not only will my music be given exposure on the new platform but several other local artists as well. Sony Ericsson also had a similar proposal but we are still negotiating”

Deputy Chairman of the Association of Independent Record Companies (AIRCO) Mr Dodo Monadi, who also attended MIDEM 2009, said he was deeply moved not only by Renneth’s exploits, but by the whole South African team that attended the conference.

Monadi, who is also in charge of the Skills, Development and Transformation portfolio at AIRCO noted that “a significant number of music industry players had developed a remarkable interest for networking”.

MIDEM has remained on the forefront of music industry trade fairs across the world since its inception in 1967. It has been held annually in Cannes France, bringing together influential music business experts from most parts of the world to discuss the ins-and-outs of the music business and at the same time provide a networking platform.

The Department of Arts & Culture sponsors the South African Pavilion at the conference, and AIRCO handles the applications for those who wish to get subsidies.

Monadi revealed that AIRCO receives applications from across the local music landscape every year. He was however quick to note that not all who apply get the green light.
“Basically, the successful candidates should have something that is ready for export and marketable. We also try to give preference to disadvantaged individuals and usually upcoming artists get our first preference.” He added.

MIDEM is certainly a must-be place for everyone who is active in today’s South African music industry. The fact that Renneth was able to clinch prestigious deals at MIDEM 2009 further heightens the importance of music conferences (regardless of the size and location).

Denga tshisikule is a reggae artist who was working with khakhathi tshisikule as a vocalist.She released fist album last year December and it was titled reggae hits.She is singing a gospel reggae.Denga grew up singing in church in the village of Nzhelele(ha-rabali).She then decided to move to Johannesburg to persue here career in music,but look where she is now.SA Midem Organization Committee invited companies and individuals to apply for subsidies to participate at Midem January 2009. New York (Tadias) - Emperor Haile Selassie ruled Ethiopia for almost sixty years. He ruled Ethiopia as an autocrat, as an absolute ruler. His absolutist approach to power blocked sustainable reform movements that were intended to transform Ethiopia from a feudal to a modern polity. His absolute and long rule also resulted in his downfall and the end of the monarchy. I argue that absolute power is prone to endless war and conflict. It encourages rebellion, protest and banditry. Few intellectuals were courageous enough to criticize his style of rule. It took a massive uprising of students and soldiers, at the end, to irreversibly challenge the autocracy. Unfortunately, the absolutist culture he aggressively pursued is still with us. In fact, endless and senseless wars have frustrated economic, political and social development in Post-Haile Selassie Ethiopia.
To his credit, Emperor Haile Selassie presided over the establishment of institutions intended to usher modernization in the country. He established modern schools, universities, and military, naval, air force and police academies. He even donated one of his palaces to the first university in the country: Haile Selassie I University. He supervised the opening of transport, health, and recreational, financial institutions comparable to the institutions of the modern world.
In the international front, he defended the sovereign rights of Ethiopia at the then League of Nations in Geneva, Switzerland in 1937 after Italy brutally invaded and occupied Ethiopia. He succeeded in uniting Eritrea with Ethiopia in 1951. In the same year, he formally broke the long tradition that allowed the Coptic Church of Egypt to appoint Egyptian Patriarchs for the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church

When one usually thinks of a Rastafarian, the last food that usually comes to mind is pasta. But State Street has a new cart that is contending for the opportunity to put your late-night munchies to rest. Rasta pasta, which opened a few weeks ago, was started by two recently graduated students. The cart usually operates in Library Mall or on Frances Street right next to Jin’s Chicken and Fish and is clearly distinguishable with the metallic shine and neon sign just waiting for your order.
Rasta Pasta offers a wide variety of pasta dishes that fuse both Italian pastas and Caribbean flavor and spice. The Dreadlock Alfredo brings the classic Italian fettuccine pasta with grilled chicken and a spicy Caribbean alfredo sauce that has just the right bite. The signature dish is the Rasta Pasta. It consists of grilled chicken, shrimp, sautéed onions and mozzarella cheese with penne noodles in a light tomato cream sauce that is narcotic. The taste is full and the portions are fairly large that come in the classic plastic-foam container perfect for being on the move.

BEHIND SOUTH AFRICA'S REGGAE MUDER.

Last week's murder of South African reggae star Lucky Dube, 43, in a failed carjacking should finally bury the misconception that the country's crime problem is a black-on-white issue. Dube, last Friday, was shot while dropping off his two teenage children at his brother's house in Rossettenville, near downtown Johannesburg. The children survived unharmed.

The death of an international music star who had sung against apartheid and in celebration of peace and unity sparked outrage across South Africa. The following day, crowds surrounded and beat a suspected purse-snatcher in Bez Valley, shouting that it was men like him "who had killed Lucky Dube." On Monday, police announced they had arrested five people in connection with Dube's murder, and the country's newspapers pointed out the irony in his tragic death. In his eerily prescient 2001 song "Crime and Corruption," Dube demanded that the post-apartheid government protect its people from the surging crime wave:
"Is it the bodyguards around you? Is it the high walls where you live? Or is it the men with the guns around you 24 four hours a day that make you ignore the crying of the people? Do you ever worry about your house being broken into? Do you ever worry about your car being taken away from you in broad daylight down Highway 54? Do you ever worry about your wife becoming the woman in black? Do you ever worry about leaving home and coming back in a coffin with a bullet through your head?"
Official statistics show that 52 people are murdered every day in South Africa — an annual murder rate of 43.1 per 100,000 people. The U.S., by comparison, has an annual murder rate of 5.7 per 100,000 people. Added to that each year are 200,000 robberies, 55,000 rapes, and half a million cases of assault, serious assault and attempted murder.
Although the victims in many of the murders that get the most media attention are white, it escapes no one in South Africa that the vast majority of victims are black. The same townships that were the cauldron of revolution before apartheid ended in 1994 are now crucibles of crime.
So what has happened to the new South Africa? The government argues that crime is fueled by the gross social iniquities bequeathed by apartheid. That may be true, but as Dube pointed out, it is also true that the African National Congress, the liberation movement that is now the ruling party, has been a disappointment. Unemployment is 40% overall, but in some areas — and among people under 30 — it is significantly higher. Given the poor sanitation, medical care, and water and electricity supplies to millions of impoverished South Africans, they could be forgiven for wondering how much the end of apartheid changed their lives. And the continuing economic apartheid — in which the haves now include a sizable black middle class — remains at the center of criminal violence.
Poverty by itself, however, does not create criminals — after all, destitution is far worse in other parts of Africa that have far less crime. But relative poverty — missing out while others seem to be gaining — can certainly fuel violent resentment. "There isn't as much support for the proposition that poverty causes crime in the international criminological literature as you might expect," writes South African criminologist Anthony Altbeker in a study published last month. "However, there is a much stronger conviction among academics that inequality causes crime; that the difference between what the rich and poor earn matters more than the depth of poverty. "
But why the violence? Any policeman will attest that a typical career thief prefers to minimize violence, which raises pressure on the police to catch him and increases severity of the punishment if he is convicted. But young South African muggers and burglars don't just rob for the money. Many want to inflict pain on their victims, beating, raping or killing them. Of the 200,000 robberies every year, more than half are classed as "aggravated," meaning the victim was also assaulted. A friend warned me before I arrived in South Africa nine months ago, "This is political crime," meaning the violence is a form of revenge on those more fortunate than the perpetrators. In a society where violence until very recently was part of the grammar of politics, it can still be rationalized by its criminal perpetrators as avenging inequality.
Following a series of riots in 2005 that pitched impoverished township dwellers against riot police in scenes reminiscent of the apartheid era, President Thabo Mbeki recognized the dangers posed by the ongoing social inequality. "The riots seek to exploit the class and nationality fault lines we inherited from our past," Mbeki told parliament. "If ever they took root, gaining genuine popular support, they would pose a threat to the stability of democratic South Africa." But Altbeker sees the danger exacerbated by the ANC's own policies of pursuing economic growth without promoting social equality. "A large body of economic thinking suggests that the widening of inequality is one of the inevitable by-products of rapid economic growth in developing countries," he writes. "There is no universal consensus on this, but if inequality really does tend to widen as economies expand, then we had better hope that it is not the principal reason we're so violent. Because it isn't going to get better soon."

Although the continent of Africa is not traditionally seen as a source for reggae music, it has produced eight of the most popular reggae artists of our time in Lucky Dube,Khakhathi Tshisikule,Madzhasi,Colbert Mukwevho,Shufflers Ragimana,Ntshenge the jah live and Alpha Blondy. So it would make sense that there are plenty of other performers in that vast land with similarly intoxicating styles, but nevertheless, African reggae artists get relatively little exposure in the U.S. (African "world music" is probably more accessible, with artists like Angelique Kidjo, Baaba Maal, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.) Reggae Africa is thus a welcome release, a dazzling showcase of the continent's reggae artists that provides just a small taste of why they deserve more international exposure. The most familiar name (and for many, the only familiar name) on this collection is Alpha Blondy, who contributes the strong "Veto de Dieu." Some listeners may have heard of Harley & The Rasta Family, who add two nice tunes, "Sweet Reggae Music" and "Lion in a Sheep Skin," with its electrifying chorus of voices. The first half of this album is the strongest, with the first 6 tracks being the best on the album, but the remainder hold their own as well. Tangara Speed Ghoda's two tracks stand out in particular because he puts forth the most style: an intriguing mix of jazz (trumpet, sax, bass) and reggae. The sound of African reggae as displayed on Reggae Africa is distinctly airy live-band roots with African drums and the exotic foreign language element. What perhaps distinguishes the vocals even more than the language, however, is the sheer emotion conveyed; be it happiness, sadness, anger, or love, it is always haunting and unforgettable.

At one point when I first began preparing this article, I formulated a controversial, and dare I say, bold statement about the state of Jamaican reggae. It sucked. Reggae music, the music associated with irie feelings, dreadlocks and sunsplash, was dried up and gone, replaced by dancehall techno drivel that had no place on home stereo equipment. Unfortunately, my bold opinion has been shared others, millions of others, namely the record buying public that swallowed up Israel Vibration, The Meditations, Aswad, Burning Spear, Luciano and Michael Rose. And continues to purchase the timeless music of Bob Marley in any shape or form.
The record producing industry, through the effort of countless meetings and research consultants, began to realize that this dancehall style reggae had outlived its novelty. The reggae rap was a crazy kick for awhile. But soon the Shaba Ranks started sounding like the Nardo Ranks. Who could tell the difference? And did anyone really care?The result of this singular realization was to produce more "roots" reggae. The results of which have burst forth onto the American market, top-quality albums from The Mystic Revealers, Luciano, Michael Rose, Kreyol Syndikat, Nadine Sutherland, and many more. The second, less expensive alternative, was to re-release classic records on CD, a slurry of which have been produced by Heartbeat, Island, Blood and Fire, all big sellers, and good returns for the investment. Unfortunately, the sound production remains very primitive compared to today's standards. The third alternative has been to license in America previously recorded material produced by African reggae artists.Africans have been making real "roots" reggae for 20 years, and it's fantastic stuff, largely unnoticed by an international market. Reggae has always been big in Africa. But the musical genre really took off sometime after Bob Marley's concert on Zimbabwe's independence. Africans still talk about that 1980 concert in Harare, much like Americans talk about the 1964 Beatles' tour of this country. Today, reggae bands play in every region, with most of the activity in South Africa, Ivory Coast or Nigeria. Although it may seem like there is little difference in the African versus the Jamaican sound, when you listen to a lot of reggae music, the difference is considerable.For one, reggae exported from Jamaica often identifies with the American sound. In the 1970's, Bob Marley tried desperately to capture the American R&B market. These days, Kingston artists shadow their Urban music counterparts here in the States. Slack-ness (obscenity) is the key, and the ragga (rap) style permeates into every song. Lyrics glamorize sex and violence, while the roots sound had, until recently, been left to the dinosaurs. The Jamaican studios are a highly prolific lot, but turn out more garbage than gold. This industry is primarily a singles market, with many of the "good" singles---the ones that have made it big at dancehalls---thrown together as part of collections. You have no doubt seen the CDs. The covers sport some dancehall queen, with the music on the inside produced by an electronic sequencer---often just a simple rhythm track. The DJ toasts in the raggamuffin style. And that's it. You may even hear
the same rhythm track used two or three times with a different DJ. Whereas, the Africans have carried on the tradition that was planted in Harare by Bob Marley, although it would be unfair to say that ragga has not increased in popularity. The overall result is a fresher, livelier, and innocent sound, yet embracing controversial topics, such as Alpha Blondy's "Abortion is a Crime," that one cannot help but admire their idealism. The sound identifies less with American music and more with the current trends in popular African music. More recently, Malian native Askia Modibo, took on a very traditional approach, melding reggae with the pentatonic music of the Wassoulou on "Wass-Reggae," released in 1995. Even the more Jamaican sound of the Nigerian band The Mandators, and later of their lead guitarist Majek Fashek (pronounced "ma-JEEK fa-SHEEK") still emotes an African ambiance. Voters in several states approved ballot measures Tuesday that will legalize marijuana and use gambling to fund education.
Massachusetts voters approved decriminalizing possession of 1 ounce or less of marijuana. Under the new law, taking effect in 30 days, those caught must give up the marijuana and pay a $100 fine but won't face criminal penalties. Eleven other states have similar laws.
Michigan became the 13th state to allow residents -- with a doctor's approval -- to use marijuana to treat pain caused by cancer and other diseases.
"This is potentially a sea change," says Bruce Mirken, spokesman of the Marijuana Policy Project, a group working to legalize the drug. He says the dual victories come despite eight years of tough federal laws against marijuana. "Voters have said, loudly, 'Enough."'
The marijuana initiatives were among 153 measures on ballots in 36 states, 59 resulting from citizen petitions covering a range of economic and social issues.
In Arkansas, voters approved a ban on unmarried couples adopting or being foster parents.

Dreadlocks, a hairstyle that used to be mostly associated with reggae artists and fans, is fast becoming a hairstyle for many Cameroonian youths.
Dreadlocks were common with reggae musicians like Bob Marley and Lucky Dube, who used their music as a weapon for change. As most of them were revolutionists, they were considered to be radicals and violent inclined.

More or less, people who keep this hairdo have often been regarded with suspicion or tagged rascals. But recently, it seems dreadlocks is a style fast gaining grounds among youths.
But a survey recently conducted by The Post shows that many youngsters in Bamenda, in particular, now keep dreadlocks as a hairstyle.
Footballers and stars, The Post learnt, have influenced the new craze for dreadlocks among youths.According to a Bamenda based hair dresser, dreadlocks is done on natural (virgin) hair. According to her, for hair which is short, it is done by curling the hair with a towel or the hair is washed with detergent, eggs and Guinness.
In the case of hair which is long, it is plaited and can be kept for a very long time. Some people are known to have kept dreadlocks for decades while others for a short period, especially those on holidays. The plaited dreads are sometimes decorated with cowries, which gives the individual a weird look.
Some youths in Bamenda, who have taken to the dreadlocks craze, said it is just a hairstyle they enjoy. A boy popularly known as "Corneille" said, keeping dreads is just like any hairstyle and that he is emulating his icon, Cornielle. He said he does not mind if he is considered a rascal because, to him, looks do not reflect a person's character.
Another youth, whose only name she gave as Sandrine, 20, said the hairstyle fits her and she likes to be known as a crazy girl. She is also of the opinion that looks do not reflect a person, though some youths keeping dreads are really vandals.
Some of the youths, mostly girls, justified their choice of dreadlocks arguing that it is less expensive to keep them and that it stays for a longer period than any other style. Nevertheless, most parents who spoke to The Post had their misgivings about dreadlocks. According to them, dreadlocks and rascality are closely associated.
A mother of four in Bamenda said dreadlocks signify rascality. She argued that a calm and responsible boy cannot take to keeping dreadlocks. To her, a boy with dreads is a sure consumer of marijuana or a drug addict and a bandit.

To another parent, dreads with girls are not out of place but with boys, it is a cause for concern.

It is perhaps a rude coincidence that the later reggae star,Peter Tosh,died exactly 14 years before the suicide bomb that razed the World Trade Centre in the United States of America.And as if September 11 always had the toga of crime attached to it,three gunmen invaded Tosh’s home on September 11,1987 and eventually terminated his life at an unripe age of 43.After failing in their bid to extort money from the legendary reggae star,his assailants shot him severally in the head,thus scuttling a robust musical career which sought justice and welfare for mankind.But 21 years on,authorities actually masterminded his murder.What is important,however,is that the late musician has not ceased to be relevant in the global musical scene.Although his killers silenced the voice of vision in his medium of expression,the message of his music and its impact on humanity continues to wax stronger,even far outside his Jamaican background.It is,however,tragic that Peter Tosh, who gave so much to mankind, while alive is hardly celebrated many years after his transition.At the anniversary of his death last month,only little was heard of him except for a few radio stations that played his music to the delight of fans. Even in his home country,Jamaica,reports had it that the authorities hardly identified with the anniversary of his death,owing largely to his satiric lyrics and his incessant face offs with the government while alive.Perhaps,unlike Roberts Nester Marley,the late reggae icon,who incidentally was a contemporary of Tosh,only a handful of faithful fans remember Peter Tosh today.Ironically,both Tosh and Marley grew up with Bunny Wailer to form the Trinity of The Wailers in the early 1970s.Born as Winston Hubert McIntosh on October 19,1944,Peter Tosh was until death a successful reggae musician, who started off as a core member of The Wailers but later went solo to become a trailblazer for the Rastafari movement.In the early 1960s, Tosh met Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer through his vocal teacher,Joe Higgs. While perfecting their sound,the trio started playing music on street corners in a Jamaican slum called Trenchtown.By 1962, Tosh had become the driving force behind the formation of The Wailing Wailers with Junior Braithwaite and Beverly Kelso and Cherry Smith as back-up singers.The Wailing Wailers had a huge hit with their first single:Simmer Down and recorded several more successful numbers before Braithwaite,Kelso and Smith left the band in late 1965.Marley spent much of 1966 in America with his mother,Cedella (Malcolm) Marley-Booker, and for a short time was working at a nearby Chrysler factory.He then returned to Jamaica in early 1967 with a renewed interest in music and a new spirituality. McIntosh and Bunny were already Rastafarians when Marley returned from the U.S, and the three became heavily involved in the Rastafari movement. Soon afterwards,they renamed the group The Wailers.In 1973,Tosh was driving home with his then-girlfriend, Evonne, when his car was hit by another car driving on the wrong side of the road. The accident killed Evonne and severely fractured Tosh's skull.He survived,but became even harder to deal with. After Island Records President,Chris Blackwell, refused to issue his solo album in 1974,the volatile Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the Wailers,citing the unfair treatment they received from Blackwell,whom Tosh often referred to as 'Whiteworst'.Solo careerTosh began recording under the name Peter Tosh,and released his solo debut,Legalize It, in 1976 on CBS Records.The title of the track soon became an anthem for supporters of marijuana legalization,Reggae lovers and Rastafarians all over the world,and was a favourite at Tosh's concerts. As Marley preached his:"One Love"message,Tosh railed against the hypocritical "shitstem,"and became a favourite target of the Jamaican police. Tosh replied that he did not have any with him but the gang did not believe him. They stayed at his residence for several hours in an attempt to extort money from Peter. During this time, many of Tosh's friends came to his house to greet him following his return to Jamaica. As people began to arrive, the gunmen became more and more frustrated. Leader of the gang was Dennis 'Leppo' Lobban, a man whom Peter had befriended and tried to help find work after a long jail sentence. Peter must have been disgusted by this turn of events and made it very clear that he would never give them what they came for. Upon realizing that they would not get anything from the robbery, the gangs leader put a gun to Peter's head and fired twice, killing him instantly. The other gunmen began shooting, wounding several others and killing disc jockey Jeff "Free I" Dixon. Leppo turned himself over to the authorities, and was tried and convicted in the shortest jury deliberation in Jamaican history: eleven minutes. He was sentenced to death, but his sentence was commuted in 1995 and he remains in prison. Neither of his two alleged accomplices were found, though rumours persist that both were gunned down in the streets.For each of the world’s Rastamen who made up reggae's holy trinity -- Bob Marley, Bunny Livingston Wailer, and Peter Tosh -- music was The Message. MIAMI (AP) — Asha Mandela has hair that could rival Rapunzel's. The South Florida woman who started growing her hair 20 years ago now has locks longer than she is tall.
Mandela has submitted her hair, which measure 8 feet 9 inches long, to the Guinness Book of World Records for the Longest Dreadlocks, the first entry in a new category.
It takes one bottle of shampoo and one bottle of conditioner every time she washes her hair and can sometimes take days to fully dry after she washes it.
The 46-year-old Mandela says she "used to wash it three times a week. Now I do it once a week. It's very tiring. Sometimes I don't have the energy."

Nyabinghi music is the most integral form of Rastafarian music.It is played at worship ceremonies called grounations,that include drumming,chanting and dancing,along with prayer and smoking of ritual ganja.The name Nyabinghi comes from an East African movement from the 1850s to the 1950s that was led by people who militarily opposed European imperialism.This form of nyabinghi was centered around Muhumusa,a healing woman from Uganda who organized resistance against German colonialists.The British in Africa later led efforts against Nyabinghi,classifying it as witchcraft through the Witchcraft Ordinance of 1912.In Jamaica,the concepts of Nyabinghi were appropriated for similar anti-colonial efforts,and it is often danced to invoke the power of Jah against an oppressor.The drum is a symbol of the Africanness of Rastafari,and some mansions assert that Jah's spirit of divine energy is present in the drum.African music survived slavery because many slaveowners encouraged it as a method of keeping morale high.Afro-Caribbean music arose with the influx of influences from the native peoples of Jamaica,as well as the European slaveowners.Another style of Rastafarian music is called burru drumming,first played in the Parish of Clarendon,Jamaica,and then in West Kingston.Burru was later introduced to the burgeoning Rasta community in Kingston.

Reggae music has gone a lot of places over the years, from minimalist dub to culture-warring dancehall. Through it all, Burning Spear has never veered from his course.Almost 40 years on,he still hews to the reggae basics:a deep,easy groove;the brassy R&B flavorings; and a mystical take on history.In"700 Strong," he describes a joyful party at the home of iconic black nationalist Marcus Garvey.Back in the'20s,Garvey's prophecies inspired the Rastafarian religion.And Garvey's ghost,along with an Afrocentric, Rasta worldview,have been constants in Burning Spear songs.On"Wickedness,"he wields the archaic,biblical language he loves.Interesting that in this case,he's not calling down oppressors or warmongers, but rather music moguls who have been exploiting reggae artists.On Jah is Real,his verbal jousting is mostly aimed at personal foes,not the grandiose evildoers of more political reggae.Even on the album's toughest song,"You Were Wrong,"his tone is more avuncular than angry.Much of this album has the feeling of a victory lap.Over the years,Burning Spear has often been overshadowed by all the new voices and trends in reggae,but his core audience has never abandoned him,a fact he proclaims joyously on the song"Step It."Listening to Jah is Real,it's hard to resist his infectious pride.Against heavy odds,this is one public figure who can actually sell the idea that more of the same is better than change.

ALLOWING Rastafarian warders to wear dreadlocks would “open the floodgates” of indiscipline, the area manager of Pollsmoor Prison, Mandla Mkabela, told the Labour Court yesterday .
He was testifying in an application by five Rastafarian warders who were dismissed in July last year after refusing to cut their hair for religious reasons.
Two of them are seeking reinstatement and damages, and the other three, who have found new jobs, want compensation and damages.
They say the ban on males wearing dreadlocks is discriminatory – it has not been applied to female staff – and unconstitutional.
Mkabela told the court there had been a noticeable difference since he took over at the prison at the beginning of 2007, and insisted on full compliance with the department’s dress code.
There had been fewer escapes in the wake of the enforcement.
He said he had not allowed the dreadlocks because the only concessions for deviation from the dress code were for medical reasons.
Staff of the department belonged to various cultures and religions, and if it made concessions for one or two of them, it would have to do so for all.
Mkabela said his information was that the dismissal had been procedurally fair.

Robert Nesta Marley was born on the 6th of February 1945 in the Saint Ann Parish of Jamaica. His father Norval Sinclair Marley was a white man in his 50s and his mother Cedella Booker was a black woman who was 18 years old. Due to this,he suffered a lot of racial prejudice in his childhood.Although his father provided the family with financial support,he was away most of the time on his work related trips.Bob Marley was ten years old when his father died.His family moved to the Trenchtown slum in Kingston after his father died.Since he was of a short stature and due to his mixed origins,Bob Marley had to endure a lot of bullying.So he learnt self defense and eventually gained a lot of physical strength. This earned him the nickname of ‘Tuff Gong’. This is also the time he met Neville Livingston (later known as Bunny Wailer) and they began playing music together. At 14 he apprenticed at a local welder’s shop and began to make music in his free time with Livingston and Joe Higgs,who was a local musician and a devout Rastafarian. It was at one such jam session, that Bob Marley also met Peter McIntosh (later known as Peter Tosh).Death In 1977,Bob Marley was diagnosed with cancer.He had sustained an injury on right toe which had never healed. But Bob Marley refused to go ahead with any amputation surgery as it was against the Rastafarian faith.His strong faith in his religion meant that he had to keep his body ‘whole’ and also that he should not register a will as it would symbolize the acceptance of death as inevitable, thus giving a total disregard for the concept of everlasting life. Rastafarian faith also believed that smoking marijuana was an uplifting experience which would connect the human body to the divine. Eventually the cancer spread to his lungs, liver, stomach and brain. However, he continued to play on in concerts and recording albums such as ‘Survival’ in 1979 and‘Uprising’ in 1980. Bob Marley died on the 11th of May,1981 at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami, Florida.He was 36.His final words to his son Ziggy were‘Money can’t buy life’.As per his wishes,he was buried with his guitar, a soccer ball, a marijuana bud, a ring given to him by the Prince Asfa Wossen of Ethiopia and a Bible.After his death,too,Bob Marley’s reputation as a great singer and Rastafarian continued to add to his popularity and fame.Bob Marley received many posthumous awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 and the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.This Bob Marley biography is an account of this great musician and his contribution to the Rastafarian faith.He popularized the tenets of the faith through his music and his life. He was revered by many as a‘prophet’or a‘messiah’for his religion. He propagated many thoughts including radical non-violent action.To put it in his words:

I know people are angry because Khakhathi will not realise his album this year.But here is something to laugh about.Khakhathi tshisikule released his album last month.This album is called Ndo begwa henefha(i was born here) and it massive as always.He released it by his son's name as he is banned.This album contain songs like Ndo begwa henefha,tshikolo(school),Tshitevhela vhasadzi(he likes girls) and many more.But he is not the one who is singing,but he is a vocalist.But remember,He said he is not in a competition with any body,"you are competing alone and you will win alone".He said he is just passing a message from God.GO AND GET ONE FOR YOUR SELF,BUT DON'T DO COPIES PLEASE.

As with many other religious groups,the history of this one also begins before the group itself. Marcus Garvey,born in 1887,would direct the philosophical ideologies that would eventually grow into the Rastafarian movement. In the early 1920's,Garvey was an influential black spokesman and founder of the"back-to-Africa"movement. He often spoke of the redemption of his people as coming from a future black African king.On one occasion,Garvey proclaimed,"Look to Africa for the crowning of a Black King,he shall be the Redeemer".Only a few years later that prediction would be fulfilled in the person of Ethiopia's king,Haile Selassie.As Barrett has explained,"in the pantheon of the Rastafarians,Marcus Garvey is second only to Haile Selassie". On November 2,1930,Ras Tafari Makonnen was crowned king of Ethiopia.Upon his coronation, he claimed for himself the titles of "Emperor Haile Selassie,Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah,Elect of God and King of the Kings of Ethiopia"(Ethiopia and Haile Selassie.After the crowning of Selassie and the apparent fulfillment of the millennial expectations of Marcus Garvey,the Rastafarian movement gained a following and officially began in 1930.One of its early leaders was Leonard Howell,who in 1933 was"arrested by the Jamaican government for preaching a revolutionary doctrine".While Howell's doctrines [which will be noted later] helped shape the theology of the movement,his arrest helped shape the movement's organizational structure.As Barrett explained,"The harassment of Howell by the police might have been the reason why Rastafarians have decided to remain leaderless,a decision which has strengthened the movement".One of the key doctrines of Rastafarians had been their expectation that they would one day return to Africa,"the Zion which would be restored to them after centuries in the Diaspora".Garvey,with his"back-to-Africa"ideology had inspired much of this hope.In 1960 this anticipated move seemed potentially possible.With the help of the Jamaican government, a delegation of Rastafarians set out on a mission to Africa."Though no large-scale immigration to Africa by Jamaicans was achieved,the sending of some Rastafarian leaders to Africa resulted in the movement's enhanced knowledge of African realities,and probably diffused the movement's enthusiasm for immediate repatriation".An important historical event in the Rastafarian movement occurred when Haile Selassie visited Jamaica on April 21,1966.This event resulted in two profound developments within the movement.First,Selassie convinced the Rastafarian brothers that they"should not seek to immigrate to Ethiopia until they had liberated the people of Jamaica."Second,from that time forth,April 21 has been celebrated as a"special holy day" among Rastafarians.On August 27,1975,Haile Selassie died.With his death came various forms of rationalization from many Rastafarians.The responses concerning Selassie's death ranged from "his death was a fabrication"to"his death was inconsequential because Haile Selassie was merely a`personification' of God".As the Magical Blend states,"When Selassie died in 1975,his divinity did not die with him.According to current belief,the Ras Tafari lives on through individual Rastafarians".Currently,the Rastafarian movement has official branches in England,Canada,the Caribbean islands and America as well as members in most of the civilized countries.It has also experienced some fragmentation since the death of Selassie.One of the prominent splinter-groups,known as the Twelve Tribes of Israel,founded by Vernon Carrington has its headquarters in New York.Other groups which"claim allegiance to Ras Tafari"are the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church and the Ethiopian World Federation.DOCTRINE as Cash more has observed,"The belief system of Ras Tafari was so vague and loosely defined,even at its inception,due to its lack of a single authoritative voice,that what was to be acceptable doctrine was largely a matter of individual interpretation".Early in the history of the movement,Leonard Howell gave the Rastafarians six principles."(1)hatred for the White race;(2)the complete superiority of the Black race; (3) revenge on Whites for their wickedness;(4)the negation,persecution,and humiliation of the government and legal bodies of Jamaica;(5)preparation to go back to Africa; and(6) acknowledging Emperor Haile Selassie as the Supreme Being and only ruler of Black people".As Barrett notes,"This first glimpse of the new doctrine that launched the Rastafarian movement has not changed significantly over the years". Aside from these six principles are two overriding concepts that are key to the Rastafarian system.First is the idea or teaching about Babylon which refers to the Jamaican government,the establishment or the white oppressors in general. The second concept is that of I and I which has"become arguably the most important theoretical tool apart from the Babylonian conspiracy in the Rastafarian repertoire".Cashmore explains,"I and I is an expression to totalize the concept of oneness.I and I'as being the oneness of two persons.So God is within all of us and we're one people in fact.I and I means that God is in all men.The bond of Ras Tafari is the bond of God,of man.But man itself needs a head and the head of man is His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie of Ethiopia.Other doctrines which are more loosely taught and believed by the Rastafarians are the following:(1) Rastafarians have a doctrine of avatar which is very similar to Hinduism. They believe, "God revealed himself in the person of Moses, who was the first avatar or savior. The second avatar was Elijah. The Third avatar was Jesus Christ. Now the advent of Ras Tafari is the climax of God's revelation".They even teach that Jesus predicted the coming of Haile Selassie.(2) As with many new religious movements,the Rastafarians only accept the Bible conditionally preferring those passages that can be forced to harmonize with their unique doctrines. "Rastas accept the Bible as their central text with the proviso that much of its original material had been deliberately distorted during its translation into English. It is necessary, therefore, to interpret the Bible as critically as possible and recognize the aspects of it which might have been flushed out, included or altered in meaning." Further, they prefer an allegorical approach to Bible interpretation claiming that the pages of Scripture should be searched for "hidden meanings and directives".3) A physical feature that sets the Rastafarians apart from all other groups is the wearing of their hair in dreadlocks. "Dreadlocks were inspired by a biblical injunction against the cutting of one's hair".(4) Another commonly held belief among the Rastafarians is their emphasis on the smoking of marijuana. "Likewise,ganga or marijuana is considered to be the holy herb'mentioned in the Bible and its smoking is a holy sacrament to many".As Barrett explains,through the use of ganga,the Rastafarian reaches an altered state of consciousness.In this altered state,"the revelation that Haile Selassie is God and that Ethiopia is the home of the Black" is realized."The herb is the key to new understanding of the self,the universe,and God.It is the vehicle to cosmic consciousness".
(5) In line with their idea of being the supreme race, the Rastafarians also believe that they "1/4were the reincarnations of the ancient tribes of Israel who had been enslaved and kept in exile by their white oppressors,the agents of Babylon".(6) True Rastafarians are also vegetarians.BIBLICAL RESPONSEAs with many other groups which selectively acknowledge biblical passages, the Rastafarians will only accept those parts of the Bible which appear to agree with their unique theological perspectives.However,the following verses may be of some help.(1)Haile Selassie is not the latest avatar of God,for Jesus was the fullness of God.John 1:16;Eph. 1:20-23;Col.1:19,2:9.(2)No race is superior to any other race.Gal.3:28;Col.3:11.(3)While it is true that the Bible does have meanings on various levels of interpretation,it is not a concealed book.Also,it is not a book that can be selectively believed.Rom.15:4; 2 Tim.3:16;2 Peter 1:20. (4)The Rastafarian's view of Jesus being only one of several"avatars"depreciates Christ's unique claims to deity and His role as sole mediator between God and man.John 8:58;Acts 4:12;1Tim.2:5.

Humbulani Ramagwedzha is a well known local reggae artist who is singing in Tshivenda and also in English.He was working as a Hair dresser and a professional one.He was working in one of the salons her in Limpopo province.Here in this salon,his partners where not treating hi well.He was born at Lwamondo,32 years ago.He is also working with a well known reggae artist Khakhathi Tshisikule."People believe that reggae music could not be sung in a vernacular and i just wanted to prove them wrong.Today,my critics are eating humble pie because my music is received well by my fans and there are also other emerging artists who are following in my footsteps"said humbulani.Humbulani become more serious in writing Reggae music in 1994,his interests in music grew while he was a member of the Protea Apostolic Faith Mission Church when he performed at weddings and other Churches events.Pressure from adoring fans forced him to rush to the studio in 2003 to record his eight-track debut album ro da shangoni that was recorded at GTP Studios and produced by Gabriel (The great )Tshisikule. The album's great reception by his fans encouraged him to work harder.It contaned song s like Ro da shangoni(we came to earth),Lufu a lu shavhiwi(death is a death),Ni do di sola(you will regret),Ni do nkhumbula(you will remember me),U mudzimu(you are jah man),Thank jah,One more time and It's so good to see you.He released his second eight-track album in 2004,Ni so ngo vhilaela.It contain thrilling songs like No tou tamba ngae(you played by her),Ndi kale zwo fhela,My brother,Ndi a ni funa(I love you),Papapa,Ari lali(we are not sleeping,Ni songo vhilaela(dont worry) and praise.In 2006 he thrilled his fans by realising Nyandano,which includes hits like Ngoho i do bvela khagala(we will get the truth),Ngwari wa munhu,Ndi nga dzula nae(i can stay with here),ni si mu sale murahu(dont follow her around),zwila zwithu zwo thoma(they are starting),Ndi khou fhingula(im making mistake),Nyandano,U luga ndi mini,Kha mpfune khaladzi(love me sister),Mulomo a u thusi nyito,Ri la nga iwe and Ni dzule ni tshi sea(just laugh).In this album he was working with jininca.At the end of February he realise his DVD of selected songs from his previous three album.

Khakhathi Tshisikule is a well known reggae artist who is singing in Tshivenda,Tsonga and also in English.khakhathi means (trouble) and Tshisikule means (which is not far).His latest album is called Ri do dzi daha wayawaya(we will smoke it till).Most of people likes his music because his message is powerful.In 2008 he was arrested for his album ri do dzi daha wayawaya(we will smoke it till).When they release him from jail they warned him that he must not release album for five years to come.His album was burned because of some songs...ri do dzi daha wayawaya(we will smoke it till),vho raster vho kwata(raster man is angry),dear president and also tribute to my hero.I'm not sure whether he was arrested for his song or for his jacket.
But if he was arrested for his song,it means that here in South Africa there is no freedom of speech.
It means that we are still slaves because we do not have to say nothing.
Guys,i know you like Khakhathi,then lets fight for him so that he will give us more message as he said.He is not fear of any thing and he is one of those who always talk the truth.

People are confusing them selves about this religions,excluding my self and others.because my self i know that we are all going to Zion. believe it or not,we are going there.People believe that christian are the only one's who are going to heaven,which is not true,I'm telling you its not true(moses killed a person,Judah's sold Jesus,Kain killed Abel,Adam robed by eve and Simon refuses that he knows Jesus Christ,but the question is that did they go to heaven?).If its true,where are our grand parents.If the Christians are the only one's who are going to heaven,then i will follow my grandparents who doesn't know nothing about being a christian,but they were living.I think it does not mean nothing being a christian or what because there are so many different Churches,which one is the right one?Some are attending on Saturdays some on Sundays,some at 10:00,some at 13:00,then what is the right time?Stick on your believe,we are all going to Zion.Christian say that,some are praying dead people,what about JESUS CHRIST???

Colbert Mukhevho is a well known local reggae artist who is singing in Tshivenda,tsonga and also in English.If you like bob Marley's music, then you will also like his music because their voices are the same and also their messages are the same.Most of people knows him, he is also known as Harley and the raster family.He was born in a music family because his father was singing,his two uncles.He is also having a son who is also singing,Percy mukwevho singing spectacular.I don't still remember,but i think it was in 1998 when Colbert mukwevho released his album called Rodzula ro di geda,this song is too strong,RITA MARLEY said BOB MARLEY left her,she said he went to South Africa and she said she still want BOB MARLEY back,but it was this guy.She asked him to come to Jamaica so that she will prove that is not his BOB.RITA WAS SURPRISED.
